Thanks to Erika Haub for directing me to Mixin’ It Up, the blog of Jelani Greenidge. Jelani is the son of Pastor Henry Greenidge, whom I interviewed a decade ago for my Christianity Today profile of Tom Skinner. Jelani is an eloquent and provocative young writer. His recent post, “An Open Letter to a Young Republican,” is a heartfelt commentary about politics, faith, and the need for grace between passionate Christian supporters of John McCain and passionate Christian supporters of Barack Obama, like Jelani. I appreciate both his frankness and his humility, both much-needed qualities in the pursuit of genuine reconciliation. I encourage you to check him out.

Good blog. Thanks.
I hope we can remain civil, as both men are decent.
Too bad McCain picked Palin, which re-ignites the culture wars.
I think Obama is the better candidate . . . Like JFK for a new millenium.
http://witnessed.wordpress.com/2008/09/11/the-nomination-of-republican-vice-president-sarah-palin-has-certainly-sparked-interest/
I got a response from a friend who said she is ready to sever some relationships with people on the religious right who she considered to be both Christians and friends. I hope this doesn’t happen… we need each other.
That’s why I wrote this, because I want to see a few more people meeting in the middle… “across the aisle,” as they say in Senate circles.
thanks for the blog love, though.
(forgot to say that before… my bad)
and thenonconformer… I just perused your article, and I’m unsure of your central thesis… or maybe I’m just not that conversant in pentecostal theology. Not sure which.
it is very clear that Sarah Palin already has energized the reglious conservative Christian leaders to support her
http://anyonecare.wordpress.com/2008/08/30/sarah-palin-already-has-energized-conservative-religious-leaders/
and it also ihas sparked an interest into her past Pentecostal relgion as well
Jelani,
That’s why I can’t wait for Nov 9. That’s the day after the election, right? Then maybe we can quit questioning each other’s faith for awhile. Or probably find some other reason to.
I love Sarah Palin. Just for that people probably think I drown kittens in my spare time. And I love cats.
I’m tired of politics. Blech.
“. . . which re-ignites the culture wars.”
How so?
Lilke Judy, I’m ready for the campaigns to be over. The moon will be full from the conventions to the election this year, it seems.
thanks for sharing that link. It was right on
