In one of my comments under the “Are Black Voters Sleeping?” post, I half-jokingly pondered the possibility of a Barack Obama-Mike Huckabee ticket. Though these two are on different sides of the spectrum on many issues, I began to sense weeks ago that they share something in common. I think both Obama and Huckabee exhibit a fresh spirit of optimism and reconciliation that is lacking in most of today’s politics. Now, with Huckabee showing big signs of life in Iowa, others are starting to pick up on this.
In addition to Frank Rich (who is no friend of conservatives), other liberal commentators have offered positive shout-outs regarding Huckabee. It will be interesting to see how far this new “politics of hope” can carry Obama and Huckabee as the presidential race gets more heated.
